India and Seychelles signed 19 agreements covering maritime security, healthcare and digital public infrastructure during Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s three-day state visit, which had concluded on June 29, 2026. The two countries also agreed for India to dispatch four military advisers, who were scheduled to work closely with Seychelles’ defense and security institutions.
During the visit, the two sides reviewed implementation of the Indian $175 million economic package for Seychelles first announced in February 2026. India handed over a fast patrol vessel for the Seychelles Defence Forces, 10 utility vehicles, five laser radial boats, six ambulances, 500 metric tonnes of rice and 8,500 metric tonnes of cement, The Wire reported.
The advisers’ deployment was set to help embed India further into Seychelles’s security planning as New Delhi advanced its broader effort to expand its influence across the Indian Ocean basin, in the face of China’s efforts to expand its geopolitical influence in the region.
