On 26 June 2026, Israel and Lebanon signed a framework agreement in Washington under which the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) will gradually assume security control over Lebanese territory as Iran’s military and political asset Hezbollah and other non-state armed groups are disarmed, enabling a phased Israeli military redeployment out of Lebanon.
Two initial pilot zones have already been agreed upon by the IDF and the LAF for this phased process: in each zone, once disarmament and dismantlement of armed group infrastructure is confirmed, the LAF will assume full security responsibility, reconstruction will begin, and displaced civilians will be allowed to return under exclusive Lebanese state control.
Lebanon separately committed to preventing reconstruction funds from reaching Hezbollah or affiliated entities.
