MENA Theater Update, 8 July 2026

On 7 July 2026, Iran‘s Revolutionary Guard fired anti-ship cruise missiles and drones at commercial vessels transiting the southern Omani route through the Strait of Hormuz, striking three ships. The US downed some of the drones.

The United States responded the same day with its largest wave of strikes since the June ceasefire, hitting over 80 targets including Iranian air defense systems, command and control networks, coastal radar sites, anti-ship missile capabilities, and more than 60 IRGC small boats in and near the strait. Explosions were reported in Sirik, Qeshm, Bandar Abbas, and on Abu Musa and the Tunbs islands.

Iran responded with drone and ballistic missile strikes on Bahrain and Kuwait, which activated air defenses.
