On 14–15 July 2026, Israel and Lebanon held their sixth round of direct, US-brokered talks at the US embassy in Rome, concluding with an agreement on the structure and guidelines for the pilot zone process under the 26 June framework agreement.
Under the agreed process, Israeli forces are to begin withdrawing from the first two pilot zones in southern Lebanon in the coming days, with the Lebanese army deploying to the vacated areas to disarm Hezbollah and prevent its return.
