On 10 July 2026, a spokesperson for the Tuareg rebels of the Azawad Liberation Front (FLA) said that the group’s fighters had begun withdrawing from the town of Anefis in northeastern Mali, which they had entered on 4 July 2026. The withdrawal followed a week of clashes with the military convoys of the Malian military junta and Russia coming to Anefis from the city of Gao.
The FLA had attacked two of these convoys during the week of the fighting. The Malian armed forces stated that they had conducted 15 airstrikes within 24 hours, and that their operations, conducted jointly with the Russian Africa Corps, had made it possible to secure the route to Anefis.
