On 1 November 2026, China‘s Coast Guard conducted a patrol off Taiwan‘s east coast with two ships. The ships broadcast radio messages to vessels in the area, claiming to carry out law enforcement and offering assistance.
Taiwan‘s Coast Guard called the radio communications an illegal expansion of power that harasses ships and violates international law. It stated that China has no jurisdiction over Taiwan’s waters.
Also on 1 November 2026, China sent a coast guard ship near the Taiwan-controlled Pratas Islands in the South China Sea.
